As a new mom with a full-time career, one of the things I gave up in order to spend more time with my new baby was my nightly workout at the gym. I still needed to lose some baby weight, though, and found a couple things that worked without the guilt of spending more time away from my son. First came workouts that include baby (and there are a couple good DVDs available on Amazon for those!), then evening walks with my husband and son followed with warmer weather.
We enjoyed our walks so much that I decided to try the 10,000 steps a day program. After researching Consumer Reports and the reviews on this site, I purchased the Omron HJ112, and couldn't be happier. The unit is very easy to use, and because you enter your weight, stride, and other information at set-up, it tracks calorie expenditure and distance very accurately.
At work, I can either slip it into a pocket or clip it on my waistband to measure the number of steps I take each day. As another reviewer mentioned, it also measures steps very accurately even when placed in a pocketbook, as long as you hold your bag close to your body.
The Omron automatically resets itself to 0 at the end of each day, so you can just attach it to your belt (or wherever!) when you dress in the morning and go. That's a feature that I love, because I know I'd invariably forget to reset it if I had to do it myself. It will also keep your past stats including steps, aerobic steps and time, distance, and calories burned, in memory for the past seven days.
This little unit is an absolute gem. The last remaining baby pounds have been coming off steadily since I started walking more, and being able to see the number of steps creeping up as the day goes on really motivates me to get up and around more often.
I highly recommend the Omron HJ112 to anyone looking for a reliable, accurate, and easy-to-use pedometer. I won't buy anything else!Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.
