I never leave the house without it. The Omron HJ-112 is easy to set up, can be carried a variety of ways (clipped to clothing or in a pocket), gives useful and apparently accurate information, and inspires one to take the stairs instead of the elevator. Makes a great gift.Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

This pedometer keeps me motivated. I wear it for my morning walk and then leave it on all day to see how I do. Most times I average 13,000+ steps. The fact that it tracks a week's worth of walking is a stand-out feature for me. I also like that it has a clock on it. I recommend this. Be aware that one screen shows "cardo or Aerobic" walking, the other shows regular walking, one shows calories burned, the other shows mileage. I'd get it again. This pedometer is terrific. You can use it in your pocket or on your belt. It keeps track of miles walked in total as well as steps taken aerobically, anaerobically, and totally steps for the day. It also keeps a seven day log of what you did each day, steps, time walked aerobically calories burned. These past days can be returned to to check what you did in the past. It is easy to use and slim so when it is inyour pocket you cant hardly tell it is there. the price I paid was low and I am so glad I bought it.

You will love this tool for walking and keeping track of your steps..Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

Buying Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer

I'm really thrilled with this pedometer. It works better than any I've ever used, and it doesn't need to be clipped to your waistband...I just put it in my pocket and go. Another great feature is the "aerobic steps" count. It was enlightening to see that even though I'd do the 10,000 steps thing in a normal workday, I still wasn't getting ANY aerobic movement...that is, over 10 minutes continuous movement. The automatic reset (at midnight each day) and 7 day memory are also great. Sure, you can get cheaper pedometers, but this is worth the extra bucks.Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

Cheap Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer

Consumer Reports rated it tops and I do too. I have used about five pedometers over the last couple of years. This Omron ped keeps track of aerobic steps beautifully. I know because I can compare the minutes with those on the treadmill. My wife loves hers too. She likes that the Pedometer can keep track of steps even if it is not on her belt.Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

Cheapest Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer

The Omron HJ-112 Digital Premium Pedometer is the best pedometer I've ever had the pleasure of using. It is immensely accurate and so versatile! Most cheap pedometers have belt clips that aren't secure at all and are constantly falling onto the floor. In addition, the cheaper models (Like Sportline!) aren't very accurate and you HAVE to have them positioned on your hip for them to give you even the vaguest idea of how far you've travelled.

This Omron model has not only a clip, but a lanyard as well! In fact this model DOES work in your pocket (even your BACK pocket) and I've had women borrow it and swear it works VERY accurately inside their purses! This device is amazing in that I keep it in my pocket all day and it shows exactly how far I've traveled. I have worn this model to the gym and tested it on the treadmill to see how far I've gone. Almost perfect alignment with the best treadmill at the gym. Also, if you walk longer than 10 continuous minutes, this model keeps track of your aerobic steps (separately from overall steps).

All in all, this is the best pedometer I've ever used and I recommend it VERY highly to anyone sick of the cheap, bargain units available at all the local sporting goods stores. (Also when this model is on sale, it's the best bargain out there!) Get this pedometer, you won't be sorry!!!Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer Best Quality

Surviving a heart attack 2-1/2 years ago belatedly made me a real believer in the 10,000 steps a day concept, thanks to the staff in the Coronary Heart Disease Reversal Program at the UC Davis Med Center. Daily exercise is one important component of their program, and a pedometer is a great tool to help you evaluate how much exercise you're getting, not just in 45 minutes on a treadmill or exercise bike at the gymn, but in your daily activities around your home, yard, and work. Using a pedometer daily can give you some surprising insights about your life-style. Who knew, for example, that shopping can qualify as exercise when there's walking involved? And insights often lead to positive changes.

I bought, used, and discarded a half-dozen cheap, inaccurate, poorly-designed pedometers. I would run 3 miles and find the pedometer had recorded 92 steps. I had clips break, cases split from being dropped, I jabbed myself on sharp case corners when bending over. Then I found the Omron HJ-112 at Amazon and it immediately stood out above all the others.

The HJ-112 is accurate -- within 1-2%, based on my experience. Accuracy with my other pedometers was more like 5-10%. And the HJ-112's accuracy is largely independent of wearing position -- clipped on a belt or shoe, hanging from a lanyard, loose in a shirt or pants pocket, it really doesn't matter. Most other brands need to be clipped at a very specific hip position to get accurate counts.

The HJ-112 can be easily used all day. When you're exercising, you'll probably want to use its clip or lanyard. But pedometers don't really go with business attire so when you're at work or out in public, just pop it out of it's belt clip and put it in a pocket. Omron says a purse will also do -- I'm skeptical -- but a fanny pack certainly works.

The clip is quite secure, and the clip attachment to the pedometer itself is excellent: very easy to insert/remove and in two years of use, I've never had it accidently pop off. The belt clip can work itself loose with repeated flexing if it's sandwiched between two surfaces like abdomen/thigh -- for example, squatting over pulling weeds. I learned this first hand while squatting doing repairs on the roof of a two-story house. The clip pulled off and the pedometer fell 20 feet onto concrete. It didn't survive. I chaulked it up as a life-lesson and ordered a new one from Amazon. Now when I'm doing that kind of work, I try to remember to carry the HJ-112 in my pocket. I have dropped the HJ-112 onto concrete and other hard surfaces from more reasonable heights up to 6-7 feet, with no ill effects -- the belt clip is soft, flexible plastic and a pretty-good energy dissipator. I regularly run 3-4 miles, and I've never had the clip come loose.

The best feature of the HJ-112 to me is it's Auto-Reset, which I didn't really appreciate until I used the unit for a couple of days. Each night at midnight, it stores the previous day's step count in memory and resets the current step count to zero. It stores a week's worth of step counts, which are retrieved with the Memory button, though it doesn't store any of the other computed info (Calories, Miles, etc.). This really makes it easy to use every day. No more frustration when you realize mid-afternoon that you forgot to reset the pedometer that morning. And since it has a clock, it's also able to evaluate steps per minute, which it uses to report "Aerobic steps": 60 steps/minute or higher, or 10 minutes of continuous walking.

The display is easy to read, the clock is remarkably accurate -- better than my iPod's -- though it doesn't handle Daylight Savings Time changes automatically. The buttons are nicely sized with a good, tactile feel. The battery lasts 18 months or so, and is easily replaced.

I recommend this product.Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer

I bought this pedometer shortly after being diagnosed with diabetes and needed to exercise. I bought it from an online diabetes specialty company and when I saw them on Amazon for much, much less I bought two for members of my family that walk a lot. The ease of set up and use, different ways to attach the meter, easy to read display, and clip so you do not loose it should it fall off are all great reasons to own this pedometer.Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

When I got this thing, I was immediately impressed with the apparent quality of its design and manufacture. I used it on my treadmill and found it to be reasonably accurate. By this, I mean that any difference between measurements the two devices provided was small enough to be ignored. Yes, differences accumulate over time and distance, but unless you're measuring the distance to a cliff, they'll still be close enough -- however, cliff walkers, the device does appear to "error" toward undercounting. On a treadmill, of course, steps are more likely to be consistent than they would be around the house or office. My treadmill has no corners to turn or furniture to avoid.

Pros
Since I'm using this thing to get in shape, undercounting is not a problem.
It is solid and well made. It does not look like something you should get for free in a box of cereal.

Cons
Lousy belt clip. The Omron comes with a little strap and clip that should keep it from falling completely to the floor - as long as the little plastic clip lasts. I use a lanyard from an old MP3 device and wear the Omron around my neck. It's an advantage over the cheap belt clip when I'm wearing a shirt with no pockets. When I wear a shirt with a pocket, I can still stuff the Omron in it. The lanyard looks no dorkier than the strap and clip.

I purchased my first Omron pedometer at Wal-Mart online for $29.99 and eventually found the pedometer on Amazon for much less. This is a great pedometer which can be worn or carried in your purse and I purchased two in case I lose one. It is a bit large (approx. 2 7/8" x 2" or 7.3cm x 5.2cm);I clip it to the band on my underwear and it stays in place very well. The memory keeps seven days of your walking activity which facilitates tracking your progess easy. The only complaint I have is the plastic clip on the lanyard breaks easily;I have broken two of them. I suggest the manufacturer finds a more durable plastic to manufacture the lanyard clip or provide a means to buy replacement clips at a very low price. Cheapest Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer

Update 2: I just replaced the battery (CR2032) so I guess it lasts about six months. This pedometer is probably one that I have used the longest. After losing nearly 20 lb the first time I tried to clock 100,000 steps a week, I'm embarking on another 20+lb loss target.

Update: I've been using this regularly, and found that I can stick it in a change pocket where it does a great job of accurately reporting my steps. I've left the clip, holder, and cord behind, so it's a lot smaller now. I use the GMaps pedometer for distances and calories, but this is great to get accurate steps.
------------------------------------

I hate to take away a star considering there are a lot of things to like about this pedometer. I've used many, and I'm hoping this one is the last I have to get. Or at least if I get another one, it may be this one. Still, the folks at Omron might want to learn something for the next revision.

What I like:

- I don't have to keep it clipped to my belt. It stays in my pocket all day, as do other objects like my wallet, keys, phone, etc. And it counts away fine.

- Although the buttons look like they could get pressed in a pocket by other pocketizens, like keys, change, fingers looking for stuff, they don't. Especially Reset, which I feared would get hit somehow. But yet, over a week into the product, I haven't seen a reset happening to my step total.

- I'm beginning to like that it resets itself to 0 every night, and also keeps a history of the past week. I can easily track what I did in the week and see what kind of activity gives me more steps. I don't like to chase step counts like some people, but I like to do things that up the count. After all, we're building a lifestyle here, not trying to win a count game.

- You may see lower counts, but that's because of no false hits. This device works like skip protection on a CD player. It doesn't start visibly counting even after you've started walking. This seems to be a defect at first, but this is what I assume is happening: The pedometer senses motion and starts recording it, and takes a few seconds to decide whether this is real walking or merely an occasional jolt. If the movement is a jolt or tap, or just a solitary step or two, the count is discarded before ever showing in the display. If the movement continues and has the characteristics of walking, the recorded steps are then added to the counter. So no bogus steps.

- Accuracy: I've walked 50, 100, 500 steps that I manually counted (sorry can't keep count more than 500) and the pedometer was off by a maximum of two steps for the 500 step walk. Otherwise it was off by 1 or exact. I've never had a pedometer that stays so true.

What I don't like:

- Limitations: Why would all users be less than 300 lb? Are people over 300 lb incapable of walking? The setup doesn't let the user go more than 300 lb, so the calorie counts are likely to be lower to start with. Then there's the following point.

- Assumptions: Every step is the same length. This is fine for people going walking as a regular exercise, but that gets old fast. At different times of day, different levels of energy, and different situations and terrains, steps are not uniform. So the mileage and probably the calorie count is probably off by a lot. I walked a known mile and yet the pedometer counted 0.7 miles because my step length was off. And the step length was determined by the manual's directions. In fairness, all pedometers that calculate calories burned and distance walked will have this problem

- Size - it's bulky, like a handheld stopwatch. I don't see why it couldn't have been smaller

- Visibility. It's hard to read from your pocket. The downside of the pocketability. It might have benefited from some thing like a light (maybe I haven't found it)

- Shape. It's too much like a key fob and I often pull the wrong thing out of my pocket.Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

I have tried several other makes of pedometer and find this one to the be the only one worth spending money on. I walk 8 miles a day every day that I can do so.

I have only one caveat about this pedometer, and it is a small one. If you are wearing it on your belt or waistband and you take it off to look at it, you must keep it completely vertical or it will stop recording your steps for the time the pedometer is in your hand.

Otherwise, this is the pedometer I always recommend for anyone serious about walking. Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

This is a great product. The dual sensor idea is excellent (works upside down). The belt clip is not very good but I quickly learned that it is much more convenient to remove belt clip and just lasso it through belt loop and dangle in pocket upside down. It is then easy to take a peek at it occasionally. I was going to ding one star for the belt clip but I don't need it and I want to compensate for the debits in other reviews for the great auto reset feature and the claim that it is inacurrate for running. If you are going to use it for running you need to calibrate for your running stride and dedicate it to running. Set up was quick, controls are easy/intuitive. What I especially like about it is that you don't have to clip it on your waistband if that's too geeky for you...you can also drop it into a pocket or purse and it will still count your steps accurately. (The watch pocket in a pair of jeans fits it perfectly and holds it upright!)

It's a great tool to make you more aware of your activity (or lack of). After receiving and using my pedometer from Amazon, I proceeded to order two more for friends and family who are also interested in getting more active.

It would be nice if the next generation of this would include a backlight, and perhaps an additional neck lanyard for the times you just don't have a waistband, pockets or a purse (it happens)...otherwise, it's nearly perfect.

Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer Review

I have owned many pedometers in my life. This one is great for these reasons (in no particular order):

1. It has a "leash" that keeps it from falling from your waist line (pants, skirt, etc). So it's hard to lose.

2. It seems like very solid construction. The few times that I have dropped it on the floor it has never reset itself and lost it's data.

3. The read-out (screen) is large enough to see.

4. It stores a week's worth of data so you can track your progress easily.

5. The price is very reasonable.

I have purchased one for myself and after falling in love with it, I purchased one for my mother, my aunt, my sister, and my daughter.

I first read about it in the Younger Next Year for Women book, and I love it. Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

Being a professional woman, I wear suits regularly, including some dresses. This pedometer is very accurate, whether clipped to my pants or tucked in my front pants pocket. I like the memory feature, where the prior 7 days of data is stored and that there's a clock on it.

My challenge is that not all of my slacks have pockets, and this is a bit bulky to clip on my pants. You can't wear it with dresses if there's no belt to the dress. I think this is a challenge for any woman when planning to wear any pedometer, though, not just this model.

I purchased this item because of its top ratings and hope that like most electronics, that it ultimately will be scaled down in size.

Also, the light gray strap is not the best color choice when wearing dark slacks. I have another black strap from another pedometer I own, and have put that black strap on this one, which hides it better when I've got the pedometer in my pants pocket. (The strap is for safety purposes, so the pedometer doesn't get lost if it gets disconnected or falls from your pocket)Get more detail about Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer.

Very pleased with the Omron HJ-112 Pedometer. It is easy to read and use. It's everything I wanted in a pedometer - gives you the time, counts steps, converts to miles and counts calories burned. Purchase Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer

One reviewer gave this unit one star because it resets every day. This is not a flaw! It resets at midnight because it records your activity for each day. The previous 7 days' numbers are always available by pressing the memory button. This is a very simple unit to operate, but there's no harm in reading the instruction manual!

I've had two of these units (I stupidly lost the first one after a year and a half of daily use). They work exactly as they should. The first one even survived being dropped in water; dried it out and everything worked just fine. I've taken to putting mine in my pocket (sans the belt clip) because it's safer there. With the belt clip, you have to be careful not to pop it off accidentally (that's how I lost it, and also how it got dunked).
