This is a great little motivator. I've lost about 25 pounds so far just by walking a bit more each day and a pedometer helps make sure you do just that. The great thing about this guy, though, is that you don't have to clip it to your belt. Just keep it in your pocket and it does a surprisingly good job of counting your steps. It's smart about doing so--it won't register any steps until you cross a certain threshold. So if you're sitting, and shift your weight around, it won't count one or two false "steps." But if you're actually walking, and therefore exceed that threshold, it'll add back the steps it would have ignored.
Similarly, there's a higher threshold number that the unit will use to decide you're taking "aerobic steps," which helps differentiate between trips to the printer and actual walks. The upshot of this is that at the end of the day, you'll get statistics that'll say you took 10000 steps today, 5000 of those being on actual walks that totalled, say, forty minutes.
