I have had manual pedometers which are not much good, but stayed away from the electronic devices because of all the poor reviews. However, because this one had such good reviews I purchased it through an amazon supplier about a month ago. Functionally it is great. I love the fact that it counts "aerobic" steps (read as consecutive, not really aerobic) separate from the normal daily activity steps. I really like the fact that each midnight it resets all the counters to zero and that you can review prior days counts through the memory function.
However, the downside is that it does not count all of the steps. Each morning when I attach it to my waist the counter is correctly set to zero, where it stays even after taking numerous steps. Even after it begins counting (sometimes after more than a hundred uncounted steps) it fails to count additional steps. Today was a good example. I had a count of about 125 steps (which was a low count for what walking I did) and walked into the grocery store from the parking lot and did a lot of walking around the store. On returning to my car the count was now up to 215. I know from earlier store jaunts that this count is way off for the time I spent there and the steps I took.
I take a planned walk of an hour or more each day on a sidewalk and this pedometer correctly (assumption) measures those steps which can be cross checked with the aerobic step counter. However, for other walking I'm convinced it isn't counting all the steps. I am 6' 2" tall and 230 pounds so I'm not a flea flitting about. This pedometer should do better than it's doing.
